Introduction to Safety Training

Hazel pinned on the Schuls GorgeIn an assumed risk activity such as canoeing and kayaking safety, rescue and first aid training is important.  The Club can provide this training at introductory and intermediate level including:

You never know when you will those skills either as rescuer, first aider, casualty or victim.

Sea Kayak Rescue Skills

SwellRescue skills become rusty if not used and most sea kayaking is about staying in your boat and enjoying the environment.  The Club runs occasional practice sessions to ensure those skills do no become too rusty.  The next series of session will be at QMC pool in the New Year.

BCU Aquatic First Aid Level 1

ResuscitationTypically the Club runs two level 1 Aquatic First Aid Courses each year  This year courses are planned for June and September.

Holding an 8 hour first aid qualification is a requirement for BCU Coaches level 1 and 2 and for the Pool Endorsement. We recommend that all canoeists should hold at least an 8 hour qualification, such as the BCU Level 1 Aquatic First Aid.

BCU Aquatic First Aid Level 2

Group shelterThis is the 16 hour first aid course introduced in 2010. We intend to run Level 2 courses in June and Sept/October 2012. Attendance on the Level 1 course within the previous 4 weeks is a pre-requisite for the Level 2 course.

Holding an 16 hour first aid qualification is a requirement for BCU Level 3 Coaches and new level 2 coaches with moderate water endorsement.

BCU Foundation Safety and Rescue Training

FSRT1The last FSRT started on 21st March 2012. The Club aims to run at least one FSRT each year so the next one will probably be in spring 2013.

Suited to those of 2 or 3 Star standard who want to develop their foundation rescue skills.
